The faculty of Ecole de danse Powell School of Dance Inc. began their dance training in early childhood, and therefore contributes a lifetime of experience.

Miss Susan’s dance training began at age 6. As a young dancer, she studied with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens in Montreal. In 1967, she started her teaching career with the Canadian Ballet Association. For over 15 years, she taught in six locations in and around the Montreal area, reaching 350 students each season.

In 1978, she partnered with Anthony Powell (Concordia, BFA Music, Summa Cum Laude), who was then the Dance Director of the Fred-Astaire Dance Studio, Quebec region. As a dance team, they competed, travelled and trained in International Style Ballroom.

In 1985, Lindsay, their first daughter, was born, and in 1988 identical twin girls Hilary and Ainsley joined the Powell family… three more dancers to carry on the family tradition. Lindsay’s dance training began at the age of 2, and Hilary & Ainsley’s dance training began at the age of 4. Lindsay, Hilary & Ainsley grew up competing, performing, and training in Classical Ballet, Broadway Tap, Jazz, as well as other disciplines. Highlights of their professional dance careers include performances at the Montreal Bell Centre, the Metropolis Theatre, Place-des-Arts, and Salle Gesu.

In 2004, Ecole de danse Powell School Dance Inc. was founded with 7 classes on one day. Eleven years later, Ecole de danse Powell School of Dance Inc. is teaching classes 7 days per week, operating three classrooms Monday to Sunday.

In an effort to provide a continued level of excellence in dance education to the Cornwall & Area, the faculty of Ecole de danse Powell School of Dance Inc. is currently undergoing teacher certification in the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT) teaching method for Jazz & Tap and the Acrobatique method for Acrodance. The ADAPT & Acrobatique teaching methods are recognized in the industry as the “Gold Standard” in dance education.

Starting September 2015, Ecole de danse Powell School of Dance Inc. will begin following the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) teaching method for classical ballet. Powell School of Dance Inc. is a recognized member of the RAD.

Upon completion of teacher certification, Ecole de danse Powell School of Dance Inc. will become an accredited dance school, qualified to offer dance exams; further accomplishing our mission to become a SCHOOL of dance.
